Don't Take Advantage of the Small Things
By Molly Grane - Social Media Specialist at Xapsis Integrated Marketing
A few nights ago, my family and I were literally left in the dark. A total number of 1600 people living in Peoria saw the dead of heat for six whole hours! That particular amount of time does not sound like an eternity, but with no air conditioning and being 36 weeks pregnant, it felt like one.
Have you ever noticed how senseless you get when the whole entire house electricity goes off? From the first moment of sweat on my brow, I reached for that one trusty fan in the corner of the room. Did I see the problem with this scenario at first? Obviously, no I did not, and in that moment I felt completely out of my element. I tried everything, from opening the windows and doors to getting the last bit of ice out of the freezer. Nothing seemed to cool me down like the nice cool breeze of the obvious choice – air conditioning.
As we walk through our everyday lives, we take advantage of the little things around us. Water, food, air, electronics and even the sun that wakes us up in the morning, each gets passed by and sometimes without the simple acknowledgement of a blink. I challenge you to take a drive. It can be anywhere you would like, but somewhere away from the busy city streets; maybe one in the early morning hours when most are not even out of bed yet. When you reach the moment you feel it’s safe enough to look around, lift your eyes off the road for a moment and look around to take in the panoramic view that surrounds you.
We all take advantage of the simple things, but there are ones that we need to be thankful every day; for example, our co-workers, our clients and our family. Especially in our field, clients are the ones that make us – us and who we are as a marketing firm. Staying in touch is one of the best forms of client relationship building; leading to return business, future recommendations along with a long-term standing relationship.
