So why is a programmer writing about
marketing strategies? Because one thing you might not know about a good
programmer is that we work for the user. Everything is filtered through “how will the site visitor see this and use this?” We program with the end
user/site visitor in mind first and foremost. Sometimes my boss must wonder why
I insist on extra hours to fine tune and hone the user experience!
That being said, let’s take a look
at how the average internet user will interact with Social Media.
Facebook, it is the King. If
Facebook were a country it would be the third largest in the world. Hundreds of
millions of users. But how do you engage them and take them to your
content?
The biggest target market of growth
is baby boomers. Facebook is accessible, easy to use and “boomers” use this as
a way to keep up with family and catch up with old friends. The other
demographic served by this “type” of service is MySpace. No, MySpace is not
dead, it feeds off of music, bands and the teen-to-twenty something market.
And if you have an established band, people in their forties or sixties will
not hesitate to go there from any device or computer to keep up with classic
rock or the “blues”. So making a site for a band or a small business definitely
takes different strategies. In either of these scenarios You Tube is a great
resource for linking videos.
The real key is how Xapsis has many
talented and savvy marketing and social media experts who are adept at
integrating social media strategy that I eventually happily code into a
website. A strategy has to be planned before my co-workers and I can “write
code” for it. We all see the links for social media like Twitter, Facebook,
YouTube, etc all the time. But is it integrated with content and part of an
advanced Search Engine Optimization strategy? Probably not.
Check out Xapsis if you want
integration and real customer draw. Next time I will talk about Social Media
and marketing communication. Until then I wish you all a happy and healthy
2013!
