Just Your Type

I've noted in previous blogs how obsessed I am with type, a "type junkie" you might say. A picture can say a thousand words, but a few words of perfectly kerned type can speak volumes. Fonts have distinct personalities that can evoke feelings of love, hate, happiness or sadness in a single stroke.

It might not be something that most people think about or even realize, but the right font can speak about your brand just as much, if not more, than a photo or illustration.

Just like fashion, trends come and go in typography as well. What might be good for 1985, may look completely outdated and old-fashioned by 2000. That's why it's important to choose your font wisely when creating a brand for any type of company. Simply deciding between a serif or sans-serif font can mark your company as modern or traditional and going with something too trendy can outdate your look way sooner than you might like.

It's also important to note that you're not married to any typeface. It's OK to update your logo from time to time to stay relevant, in fact, I would highly recommend it. Take a good hard look at your current logo and think about what the type and imagery say about your company. If you don't like what you see, update it. That doesn't mean you have to radically change your logo, but just changing up the font could make a world of difference.

There are a lot of font choices out there, so have fun exploring and experimenting with a few until you find the perfect one that's "just your type."
