Confidence in Blogs, Do You Need It?

By Molly Grane - Social Media Specialist at Xapsis Integrated Marketing

When writing blogs, it’s easy to lose your voice.  Somewhere around 2 months ago, I lost my voice altogether.  Writing came hard for me and I started focusing on the “WHY CAN’T I WRITE.”  Wrong!!!  This should be a good lesson of what not to do.  I felt the deep-down feeling, which no one wants to feel, of not being good enough.  Every time I sat down and put my fingers to my keyboard, I heard the little voice in the back of my head saying “you can’t do it,” or “what mess can you create today?”  Confidence is what I was lacking, mostly because I felt no direction or I felt like I needed to write the next masterpiece, which was not coming through my fingers at all.

Blogs can be difficult.  One should be able to read your blog and get a sense of who you truly are because your own personality should be showing through the cracks.  This is where I struggled.  Words should flow through the fingers when you write about situations or topics that relate to you.  I was writing about topics that I had no true passion for.

And that is why I have a few tips and tricks up my sleeve to give to all you blog-writing beginners.

Lesson ONE: BE REAL:  We can’t fake who we truly are inside.  If you have no passion for what you are writing about, find another person in the company that does.  Trust me; it will come better from them because that is their passion.

Lesson TWO:  SHOW EMOTION:  There was a blog I wrote a number of months back.  I discussed a very emotional timing in my life when my son was very sick.  In relation to this, I showed how brands play such a huge role in our life.  Take a moment from your life in which you can relate to, and others can relate.  This makes your reading more engaging to your audience.

Lesson THREE: WRITE HOW YOU TALK:  Showing your audience your true inner voice, gives your blog its own personality.  For example, I added a link to a blog in Momastery.  It’s a must read, which I think truly shows how some write how they talk.

Lesson FOUR: CONTENT STRUCTURE:  When reading a great blog, the eyes look for structure or an easy flow to the content.  The easier the eyes can read your blog, the longer the user will stay on your site.
