Quick...think
of a logo, any logo. What do you think of first? McDonald's? Nike?
Apple? We are inundated with hundreds of logos a day, so what makes these
stand out? The design is one
reason, of course, but that's only the beginning.
As
a graphic designer, nothing is more challenging than the design of a
logo. Trying to come up with the perfect icon that represents a company
is definitely one of the most difficult
and important aspects of design. I have clients say to me that they want
a logo like Nike, one that everyone knows from just one glance. And, of
course, that's what every business should want, but unfortunately I
can't wave my magic mouse and make it happen
in an instant.
What
many people don't understand is that creating a great logo isn't just
about design, it's also about branding and marketing. Developing an
easily recognizable logo like Target or
McDonald's didn't just happen overnight. It took years of getting their
logo out there in ads and on signage and on well, everything! You can
have the best logo in the world, but if you don't get it out there in
the public eye, it will never become one of the
greats.
