What terms do you associate with the day
“Thanksgiving?” Thoughts that pop in my head immediately are “a day to give thanks or count your blessings” or “family.” Traditionally speaking, these are relations
that should be associated with Thanksgiving.
Recently, in the past few years, this holiday has taken on a few new footings,
such as “deals,” “shopping,” or “retail.”
What is your opinion on the changing terms associated with this holiday? Should retail stores even play a part of this
day? Last year, a few stores announced to open
their doors at 12 a.m. and this year they've even extended it further upon
those hours into 8 p.m. Thanksgiving night.
As a marketer, I understand the financial aspect of opening
earlier, but as a human being I have to ask “when will the hours stop?” Are we considering the associates who work
within these stores? I found myself
having a new-found respect for the retail stores who are opening their doors are
6 a.m. Friday morning. They are sticking
to their beliefs and giving their associates that much needed time with
family. Sometimes in life we need to
look upon ourselves and ask “WHAT IS IMPORTANT”and have that take
precedence.
As we leave today from work, I want to wish everyone a
Happy, Safe, and Blessed Thanksgiving.
Take a day to relax from your everyday life and enjoy the little things
tomorrow.
