Social Media Vs. Traditional Advertising

By Larry Ball - Web Developer at Xapsis Integrated Marketing

Traditional advertising media such as radio, television, and magazines allow businesses to reach customers via mass media. Social media also enables businesses such a reach, along with offering a one-on-one approach to interacting with current and potential customers. Along with these many benefits, social media also gives a business more granular metrics on how marketers are reaching and interacting within their markets.

But what is social media? It includes platforms such as blogs, microblogs, social networks (almost all of us have heard of Facebook and Twitter), as well as media sharing sites. These platforms are accessed via desktop computers, laptops, netbooks, tablet computing devices, e-readers, and smart phones.
This area of marketing is in a constant state of change offering consumers more options and requiring constant innovation by businesses to keep pace with consumer demand.

This has been a brief introduction to social media. In future blog postings throughout 2013, I will continue to explore the many facets of social media.
