What is in a Name?

By Julie D. Sanders - Director of Client Services at Xapsis Integrated Marketing

Shakespeare asked the question a long time ago…"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet".  But would it really?

In the big scheme of things, names may not seem that important but in reality our name is our introduction to the world.  I can’t say I’d be the same person today if my name was Bertha T. Doodlepants.  I suspect that I would be a very different (probably from the years of torturous name calling and subsequent counseling).

Your business name for example is literal, a sign to world to say look at us! We are special!  We make cookies here (if you make cookies, which if you do, the Xapsis Team loves cookies)!  In a sense it must tell your business story before they ever enter the door.  So it’s a big deal to brand your business with a great name.

Joe’s Shoppe doesn't tell you anything about the company.  But Joe’s Sweet Surf Shoppe paints a picture and you already have an idea about what they do there.  You need to establish a story or presence with your business name.   I know what you are thinking, “Wait a minute Bertha, so what is so great about the name Xapsis Integrated Marketing?”  I'm glad you asked.  It’s a frequently asked question around here.

Xapsis is actually a spin-off of the word “apsis” which in celestial mechanics is essentially defined as a point both farthest away and nearest to the center of attraction in a defined system.  (Huh…me know no understand rocket science.) So if X marks the spot, the “You Are Here” indicator on the map, then you add apsis, this creates Xapsis.  Xapsis Integrated Marketing becomes the method to get you from where you are (X) to where you want to be with your business.  That is all for today class.
